What Is Keratosis Pilaris?
Approximately 50% of the world population experience Keratosis Pilaris -KP (those tiny red bumps on your upper arms and inner thighs, also known as chicken skin) and approximately 80% of children have KP. Keratosis Pilaris is a genetic condition where the follicles on the outer arms and thighs get clogged and don't naturally exfoliate. Sometimes its because a hair is not able to reach the surface and becomes trapped beneath the debris. The good news is that KP usually improves with age and you can make keratosis pilaris bumps disappear.
Generally speaking, Keratosis pilaris is aesthetically displeasing, but medically harmless. Inflammation with each hair follicle can cause embarrassing red or brown polka dots that often resemble pimples or acne
