Do You Really Need to Exfoliate Your Skin?
Is exfoliating your skin necessary?
Yes! While it’s true your skin sheds dead cells on its own, it often needs help. Sun damage, age and product build up, all contribute to making your skin look dull and dry. Your skin naturally sheds dead skin cells approximately every 30 days, but often your skin doesn’t shed those cells completely. Exfoliating thoroughly removes dead skin cells from the surface of your skin. This is why regular exfoliation is so important.
Breakouts are also a concern. When your pores are blocked with oil, dirt and product build up, you are more prone to acne and breakouts from clogged pores. Exfoliating regularly unclogs your pores and it helps your skin look smoother, younger-looking.

Still others suffer from skin conditions, such as keratosis pilaris, small red bumps often found on arms, legs and buttocks. Regularly exfoliating skin with keratosis pilaris helps smooth these bumps, making them less noticeable over time.

What are the benefits of exfoliating your skin regularly?
So far we know that exfoliation can leave your skin looking brighter and smoother, but did you know that skin care products also work better on regularly exfoliated skin? Due to improved absorption, the products you’re currently using can penetrate deeper, making them work harder for you.
Smoother skin and better absorption aren’t the only benefits you’ll experience with a regular exfoliation routine. Exfoliating can also help stimulate collagen production, which is important to skin’s elasticity and can help to reduce the appearance of sagginess in the skin. Exfoliation also helps refine fine lines and wrinkles.
Use the Exfoliating Face Mitt about once a week for healthier, smoother skin!
If you suffer from ingrown hairs or razor burn, exfoliation can also help prevent these painful conditions.
People who self-tan can also benefit from exfoliation. Exfoliating before your self tanning application can help your self tanner penetrate deeper, leaving you with a smoother, deeper self tan that can last longer.
Since exfoliation prevents clogged pores, this can also mean fewer breakouts in your future.

How Many Times a Week Should I Exfoliate My Skin?
We recommend exfoliating your face about once a week and your body approximately 1-2 times per week depending on your skin’s condition. You SHOULD NOT exfoliate every day.
Skin needs time to rest and rejuvenate new skin cells. When you exfoliate too much, your skin will retaliate! Your skin may become more sensitive, and you may experience more breakouts. Stick to a schedule and follow it for optimal results.
When should I exfoliate?
Exfoliating with the MicrodermaMitt should be done after a shower or bath. We recommend stepping out of the shower or bath when exfoliating with the Mitt.
The MicrodermaMitt and your skin should be damp, not soaking wet. This helps create some friction between the Mitt and your skin, helping to facilitate exfoliation.
Will I see dead skin on my Mitt?
For some, they will see skin roll off as they scrub with their Mitt. For others, skin shedding can be almost microscopic. If you exfoliate regularly, it’s only logical that you will, over time, see less or no skin shed when you scrub. This just means you’re doing a great job. Keep up the good work!
